Why I Created the ‘I Choose Me’ Project (and What it Means to Women Like Us)

Why I Created the ‘I Choose Me’ Project (and What it Means to Women Like Us) - Blog Banner

The “I Choose Me” Project is my passion project. Many years in the making. In between working as a trauma psychologist for over 17 years, the exhausting grind of seeing one-on-one clients, hour by hour, raising kids, trying to pay a mortgage, and somehow maintaining self-care in between. I found I was getting increasingly burnt out, resentful of the job I loved, and I started to feel dread going to work each day. And I knew that wasn’t sustainable either. I felt immense pressure on my family, my clients, and, least of all, on myself.

The ongoing self-sacrifice and self-abandonment that is so common with women in my demographic made me realise that this is not the way we are meant to exist. We are meant for connection. Not only to each other, but our own bodies and minds first and foremost.

So I began the journey of looking after number one. I wanted to bring the knowledge I gained around women’s mental health and their tendency to self-sacrifice, combined with esoteric practices like yoga and meditation, to all women - and myself!

Through this journey, I realised how powerful embodied movement could be. As a yoga instructor, I began weaving therapeutic insights into my yoga sessions, creating a holistic approach to self-love and healing.

I did my yoga teacher training certification so that I could reach more people, in the hope of combining that with psychological knowledge into a program that reaches women like you, in small ways, every day.

Women don’t need more to-do lists. They need nourishing, achievable practices that connect them back to themselves. Yoga does that. Gentle, daily movement helps calm the nervous system and creates space to tune into what we actually need, not just what’s expected of us.

I want all women to release themselves from the conditioning of self-sacrifice and self-abandonment that is so often expected of us. No more battling with profound guilt. No more to the lack of self-love that we take as normal.

This pattern is toxic, I see it in almost every woman I come across, and it’s literally holding all of us back and often making us sick in the long term. 82% of autoimmune disorders are in women! WHY? Because when we turn against ourselves, our bodies internalise it, and turn against us as well.

Research by Harvard Medical School supports this, showing that chronic stress and emotional suppression are strongly linked to autoimmune conditions. This makes our healing not just emotional, but physical too.

This is when the “I Choose Me” project came to me.

And it’s not just a project, it’s a way of life. One that invites women to gently untangle the knots of guilt, obligation, and martyrdom. One where a yoga teacher can guide you through small yet meaningful daily practices that reconnect you to your worth.

So after a whole bunch of therapies for myself, doing my own growth, and undertaking my personal self-love journey,  I started to see real changes. I found that even if others were disappointed that I put up a boundary, or unhappy with the way I changed, I didn’t mind. Because I was putting myself FIRST. Choosing ME.

My life changed as a result of this. And while it’s an evolving work in progress forever, my life is different because of it. And NOW I am DETERMINED to share what I learned, and to help women break free from self-sacrifice, self-abandonment, and self-sabotage so they can finally choose themselves, without guilt or the need for external validation.

The role of a yoga teacher isn’t just to lead classes. It’s to hold space for transformation. I designed this challenge to do exactly that in the simplest and most realistic way possible for busy women.

I have a deep passion and drive to help women conquer self-sacrifice and self-abandonment, and I want to help YOU find the self-love you deserve. It’s your birthright, and it's simply the ONLY way to live a fulfilling life inside and out. The world around you, the people around you, benefit from your own self-love; it makes no sense when we sacrifice on the altar of duty and responsibility.

Sign up now for the 21-Day I Choose Me Challenge and experience the shift that comes from just 10 minutes a day of movement, mindset work, and reconnecting with your body. Whether you’re new to yoga or returning to your mat, this program is designed to be accessible and empowering.
